Medical Condition Disclosure & Monitoring

This policy promotes participant safety by ensuring Surf Rescue Team is informed of medical conditions that may affect safe participation in beach and ocean-based activities. It defines parent/guardian and staff responsibilities and demonstrates reasonable care in supervising minors in a physically demanding outdoor environment.

Disclosure Requirement: Parents or guardians must fully disclose, in writing, any medical condition that could impact participation, including asthma, panic or anxiety in water, seizures, allergies, cardiac conditions, diabetes, physical injuries or limitations, prescription medications, or any condition requiring monitoring or accommodation. Failure to disclose increases risk and may limit emergency response.

Medication Policy: Staff do not administer medication unless required by law and authorized in writing. Participants requiring emergency medication must bring their own, ensure it is clearly labeled, and be capable of self-administration when appropriate. Staff assistance is limited to training scope.

Confidentiality: Medical information is accessible only to authorized staff, shared strictly on a need-to-know basis, and treated as confidential.

Monitoring: Staff make reasonable efforts to observe participants for distress, implement disclosed accommodations when feasible, and encourage self-reporting. Staff are not medical professionals and rely on disclosures and observable behavior.

Authority: Surf Rescue Team may modify activities, require rest, restrict ocean participation, or remove a participant for the day in the interest of safety. Decisions are final.

Emergency Response: Staff follow the Emergency Action Plan, activate EMS when necessary, and notify parents or guardians as soon as practicable.

No Guarantee: Disclosure and monitoring do not eliminate risk. Participation involves inherent risks associated with ocean environments and physical exertion.

Media Consent & Release

The parent or legal guardian grants Surf Rescue Team, LLC the irrevocable right to photograph, video record, and otherwise capture the participant’s likeness, voice, image, and performance during program activities.

Permitted Uses: Media may be used for lawful purposes including social media, educational materials, and internal training or presentations. Media shared online may be publicly accessible.

Ownership: All media is the sole property of Surf Rescue Team, LLC. The parent or guardian waives any right to inspect or approve finished media and acknowledge no compensation will be provided.

Release: The parent or guardian releases and holds harmless Surf Rescue Team, LLC and its affiliates from claims arising from media use, including privacy, defamation, or misrepresentation.

Duration: Consent is perpetual unless revoked in writing. Revocation applies only to future use and does not require removal of previously published materials.

Informed Consent & Medical Disclosure Agreement

This agreement obtains informed consent, confirms readiness for ocean-based activities, collects medical and emergency information, and establishes shared responsibility for participant safety. It supplements all waivers and policies issued by Surf Rescue Team, LLC.

Program Nature: Surf Rescue Team is a physically demanding outdoor ocean-based youth program. Activities include running, open-water swimming, paddle and surfboard use, beach and ocean games, and instructional or competitive drills. The program is not a lifeguard service, swim school, or childcare provider and does not provide continuous one-on-one supervision.

Fitness Certification: The parent or guardian certifies the participant is physically capable, has appropriate swimming ability, is comfortable in open water under supervision, and can follow verbal instructions. Staff may restrict participation for safety.

Emergency Medical Authorization: Permission is granted to provide first aid, emergency care within training scope, contact EMS, and arrange transport if necessary. Surf Rescue Team does not provide diagnosis or ongoing treatment.

Assumption of Responsibility: Ocean activities involve inherent risks and injuries may occur despite safety measures. Participation is voluntary with full awareness of risks.

Refund Eligibility

Refunds are available up until 2 weeks before the start date of the session the participant is enrolled in.

• Refund requests submitted before the session start date are eligible for a refund minus a $100 administrative fee.
  

• The $100 fee is per participant, per session for uniform.

• You are eligible to get the uniform even if you cancel.
  

Code of Conduct

Guiding Principles: Surf Rescue Team provides a safe, structured, respectful, and team-oriented environment. Participation is a privilege requiring compliance with rules and safety directions.

Participant Expectations: Participants must follow staff instructions, act respectfully, participate within assigned groups, use equipment as instructed, report injuries or discomfort, and remain within designated areas.

Prohibited Behavior: Ignoring instructions, reckless behavior, aggression, bullying, leaving activity areas without permission, unsafe horseplay, possession or use of drugs, alcohol, nicotine or vape products, and inappropriate language are prohibited.

Parent/Guardian Conduct: Parents must respect staff authority, address concerns privately, support rule enforcement, provide accurate information, follow drop-off and pick-up procedures, and refrain from interference during program hours.

Discipline & Removal: Staff may issue warnings, remove participants from activities, notify parents, suspend, or permanently remove participants for safety. Refunds are not guaranteed.

Risk Acknowledgment: Parents and participants acknowledge inherent ocean risks and that failure to follow instructions increases injury risk.

Release of Liability & Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by California law, the Parent/Guardian, on behalf of themselves and the Participant, releases, waives, discharges, and holds harmless Surf Rescue Team, LLC, its owners, officers, directors, employees, contractors, volunteers, and affiliates from any and all claims, demands, causes of action, or liability arising out of or related to the Participant’s participation in Surf Rescue Team activities, including injury, illness, property damage, or death, whether caused by inherent risks of the activity or otherwise.

This release applies to all claims except those arising from gross negligence or willful misconduct, which cannot be waived under California law.

The Parent/Guardian further agrees to indemnify and defend Surf Rescue Team, LLC against any claims brought on behalf of the Participant arising from participation in the program.

By enrolling in a Surf Rescue Team program, families acknowledge and agree to the terms of this Terms of Service.
